Maureen Kellick, Artist

Rosary Hill College – Bachelor of Fine Arts 1974

Artist Maureen Kellick has built a versatile career shaped by her deep connection to the natural world. Growing up near New York’s Niagara River and Lake regions, she was inspired by the orchards and vineyards that surrounded her, themes that continue to appear in her work. Later, during a residency on Florida’s Gulf Coast, the state’s brilliant light and diverse landscapes expanded her palette and subject matter.

Kellick’s professional path has been equally wide-ranging. She has received commissions for logo designs, murals, and paintings and worked in advertising, tourism, marketing, and the performing arts before returning to her roots in fine art. Today, her award-winning portfolio spans historic destinations, coastal scenes, and natural imagery from Florida, the Great Lakes, and the Adirondacks. Her work is recognized for its expressive use of color, perspective, and shadow, and is represented in private and public collections across the United States.

One of her most recent projects is the Lewiston Mural, an 875-square-foot work at Academy Park in the Village of Lewiston, New York. The sweeping design wraps around all four walls of the park’s building, celebrating the Niagara River, farmland, and local wildlife. Completed in collaboration with metal artist Dan Buttery of Black Lab Metal Fab, the mural was dedicated in September 2024 with support from the Niagara River Greenway and local partners. Visit MaureenKellickGallery.com for the journal on The Lewiston Mural’s creation.

Maureen resides in Madeira Beach, Florida, and returns to Western New York to enjoy the changing seasons.

What brought you to °®½´ÊÓƵ/Rosary Hill?

As a young artist, before my college years, I had the opportunity to show my work in several Art Festivals and exhibitions in our WNY and Ontario area, leading to private commissions, awards and recognition.   Rosary Hill College had a widely recognized Fine Arts program during the 70’s, and acceptance into their program was a coveted and prestigious achievement.

What do you remember most vividly from your time at °®½´ÊÓƵ/Rosary Hill?

My years at °®½´ÊÓƵ/Rosary Hill were spent fully immersed in the studios; drawing, printmaking, ceramics, and painting.   I was blessed to have has both James Allen (Professor Emeritus) and Professor James Kuo as painting advisors.  These working artists, as well as the many other talented professors at the College, were stimulating to work with and take direction from.  Like many Alumni – these were wonderful, creative years on the °®½´ÊÓƵ/ Rosary Hill campus.

How did your experiences and education at °®½´ÊÓƵ/Rosary Hill prepare you for life after college?

The talents and abilities of my professors, as well as my fellow Fine Arts students (comrades) at Rosary Hill / °®½´ÊÓƵ opened my mind and enabled me to push my art boundaries.   The focus of not just making of the art – but one’s philosophy of why you are creating – was always fore front.   The training, education and experiences at Rosary Hill ‘shot me out of a cannon’ into my life as an artist.
